Our Foals

Our foals are bred to be well suited for eventing, dressage, hunters, jumpers and equitation.  They are evaluated as they grow and mature so that we can promote them for the disciplines that they are best suited for.

Our babies are imprinted at birth and handled regularly as they grow so that they are well-socialized, friendly and easy to handle. We believe that by giving them a good start in life, we give them a better chance of becoming a willing and successful partner for their future owners.

Foals are allowed plenty of time to grow and mature before being started under saddle.  It's mostly pasture romping and regular handling for the first 2-3 years.  They will be introduced to tack at some point during their 3 year old year before they turn 4, and possibly do some very light and irregular ground work or round penning.

As 4 year olds, they learn to ground drive, and worked in the round pen a little more.  The sale prospects will be lightly started under saddle during their 4 year old year, and the keepers won't be "backed" until they are at least 5.

This long, slow starting process has actually resulted in our horses being very easy to start and ride.  They have been handled longer, and they have more of their growth spurts behind them.  It's just easier on everyone to wait until they are older, and the silver lining is that they will hopefully remain riding sound much longer than horses that are started as 2 year olds.

About Us

Advent Sporthorse Farm is small sporthorse breeding operation located in Central Texas.  We are striving to produce quality sporthorse prospects with correct conformation, movement, athleticism, size, substance, great temperaments, and willing, trainable minds.

Prospective Buyers

While we would love for all of our foals to end up in show homes where they can shine in the spotlight, we understand that not every rider wants to compete.  So, by breeding and raising horses to have good minds, they will also make wonderful prospects for foxhunting, trail riding, and general riding or driving.

Ultimately, good homes are a must for the horses that we produce, regardless of disciplines or goals.  Finding those good homes is similar to arranging a marriage.  Both horse and rider need to be happy with each other.  If the horse doesn't agree with the rider, the rider will become dissatisfied with the horse's performance, and the horse will be more likely to be sold into an uncertain future.  But if they really click, a lifelong partnership has the best chance of forming to help ensure a safe, forever home for our horses.

We have very good track record of happy buyers that still have our foals, and always enjoy the updates.

The Breeding Program

Lexi has been breeding horses since 1991.  It started with acquiring a nice mare to breed to a favorite TB stallion that was being sold to Mexico.  Lexi had ridden and shown this stallion, and knew what a tremendous athlete he was, combined with an incredible mind.  This was her last chance to get a foal of his before he left the US.  The result was Steel Magnolia, aka Maggie.  She was a stunning filly with floating movement and cat-like athleticism.  She unfortunately sustained a major injury to a front leg that prevented her from ever having a show career.  She was later bred to an Anglo-Trakener, and her foal went on to a double career in dressage and hunters.

In 1996, Lexi produced her 3rd foal, Savoir Faire, aka Savvy.   Standing a regal 17.3 hands, she produced some lovely foals, and has retired from breeding in 2016 at the age of 19.

Other mares have been carefully selected over the years to form the small broodmare band.  They've produced some nice foals that have mostly been sold, some to potential show homes.  A handful of fillies are being kept as replacement mares for future generations of sporthorse foals.

In 2005, one special colt, ASF Spark, hit the ground, and he has been kept to become the stallion of the breeding program as it moves forward.

For more information on him, see below, or go to his page.

Our Stallions

Our breeding stallion, ASF Spark, is a homebred chestnut pinto warmblood stallion.  To learn more about him, please visit his page.

Our stallion prospect, Baryshnikov, is a bay GOV son of Benetton Dream.  He was the premium colt at his inspection, and has outstanding movement.  We are hoping to get him approved for breeding in the future.

About Lexi

Lexi Maxwell had an unexplainable attraction and connection to horses from the time she could walk and talk.  In spite of the fact that no one else in her family was interested in horses, she found every concievable way to learn and work around horses, soaking it in like a sponge.

Her father eventually realized that this passion wasn't diminishing, and bought Lexi her first horse for an early 13th birthday present.  Pelicano Kid, a handsome plain bay Appendix QH gelding, was not really a good starter horse since he had a bad habit of bucking off his riders when he objected to anything.  Lexi ate her fair share of dirt early on, but eventually developed a more secure seat than many of her riding friends thanks to "Pel The Pill".

After graduating from high school at 16, she went to work for a large and small animal veterinarian, Adalberto Garza, D.V.M.  She took over the financial burden of horse ownership from her parents, and purchased her 2nd horse, Certified Chance, an OTTB gelding that had been neglected and abused after retiring from an unsuccessful racing career.  She rehabbed and retrained "Chancey", who became her rockstar partner in the hunter, equitation and jumper classes.  He was truly a very special horse that accelerated Lexi's competition achievements.  Chancey raised the bar on what Lexi desired for her horses.

A good friend, Peggy Hyde of Pegasus Stables, introduced Lexi to eventing in the late 1980s, so now that is her discipline of choice. In order to have custom designed, quality eventing prospects, the breeding program to create future riding partners for Lexi was born.
